Cars

From 1997 - about 2006 or so. The first 2 were influnced by a Ford Escort station wagon that I was for some reason facinated with. The next 2, a pen and photoshop version of an interior, heavily influnced by a Grand Am rental car I drove. The Last one was influnced by this beautiful mint condition 1964 Soft top Corvette a guy I knew owned.

Head In The Clouds

Focusing in High School was very difficult for me, unless I was actually interested in the subject. Since my High School only had a Drafting and an Architecture course that could appeal to my desire to design, that was rare. CAD was such a new thing we only had 3 computers, and it was something like Auto Cad 12, which came out in 92 just a year before. I spent a large portion of time drawing as a consequence.

More than anything else, I drew helicopters.  Like the one below. You can see the way my thinking and style changed from 1990 through 2005 in the first image, then you can see some of the intermediate steps below (Mostly from the later years, as before that they were really rather poor.)

Helicopters

I have noticed my ideas can really come from anywhere. Like sometimes, your driving, and driving, and driving, and driving...

Suddenly you wonder, how your 1994 ford Escort would look as a helicopter. and there it is.

Most of the time, you just can't pay attention in High School Algebra, and suddenly there you go.

Flying Dreams

Ideas morph, sometimes farther from the original than you would think. Take for instance this "Thopter" based loosly on the object of the same name in Frank Herbert's Dune Series. First, is a design solely derived from my previous experiments with Helicopter designs.
The second is actually an RAH-66 Comanche, modified. Third is the same with some tweaking in Photoshop.

All of this was, in turn, intended to be part of some idea a had for a palace, that sat on top of a very odd tower of a mountain.

Evolving Ideas

I used to draw, all the time. I had ADD enough in High School that, traditionally, this was what I did instead of say, homework. It is interesting to me to see how some of my ideas evolved over time, as did my abilities.

Going way back to about 1993, I had an idea floating about for a car.  Well, Many I suppose. the only think that stayed the same is the air scoops on the sides. This initial idea is fun, in that I clearly have computer screens and DVD players everywhere, and, what is that on the center console? Yep, a floppy drive. Apparently this car had DVD and game systems all built in, as well as some serious navigation aids. Also note that the headlights are hidden behind a plexiglass shield that keeps the aerodynamics of the car. But who ever heard of such things in an automobile? Am I right?

Now watch, as the idea slowly evolves from then through about 1995.
